  • Hyperplastic Polyp

    A benign clump of cells that does NOT carry the risk of developing into cancer. These types of polyps do not need follow up.

  • Tubular Adenoma

    A clump of cells known as a polyp with tubular morphology that may turn into cancer if allowed to grow and change over time. Tubular polyps have the lowest risk among adenomas for developing into cancer. Depending on the size and number of tubular adenomas removed you will need a follow up colonoscopy in 3-5 years on average.

  • Tubulovillous Adenoma

    A clump of cells known as a polyp that has tubular and villous morphology. If left in place this type of polyp may turn into cancer over time. The risk of cancer is in between that of a tubular polyp and a villous polyp. Depending on size and number of polyps follow up colonoscopy will be in 3-5 years on average.

  • Villous Adenoma

    A clump of cells known as a polyp that has villous morphology. These types of polyps harbor the highest risk among adenomas of developing into cancer if left in place over time. Depending on the size and number of villous adenomas you have removed, you will likely need a follow up colonoscopy in 3 years on average.
